Why the Tamba™?
In Ayurveda, drinking water that has been cleansed and ionized in a copper vessel is a common practice. In India, this transformed, therapeutic water from a copper cup is called Tamra jal. Copperized water is a natural antioxidant that helps balance the three doshas of our body (kapha, vata and pitta). The trace amount of copper in a Tamra jal is safe and healthful, even when added to other normal dietary sources of copper.
Have you ever wondered why after drinking multiple glasses of water a day, you still feel thirsty and not energized? In order to make drinking water safe, water treatment plants use basic filtration systems to remove most contaminates. These systems make water safe for drinking but they also destroy water’s vital life energy and drastically shift its natural pH. By the time your drinking water has been treated, traveled great distances through water pipes and gets into your glass, it has lost much of its vitality, tasting “dead”. As a result, the water we drink is not easily absorbed by our cells, leaving us wanting more. The Tamba™ recharges the vitality of your drinking water. It ionizes, energizes, and balances the pH, making the water “alive” again. This energized water is better absorbed by your cells and therefore enhances hydration.
Vasanti Health provides authentic, high quality copper cups used in traditional Ayurvedic health practices. We sustainably source our products to ensure the greatest purity and highest grade of copper. Independent lab testing confirms our vessels to be more than 96 percent pure copper. They also include zinc, as it balances the copper and aids in digestion.
Each cup is skillfully designed by artisans in India making them healthful and decorative.
How to use your Tamba™ vessel?
Ayurvedic practice recommends drinking a maximum of 16 fl/oz of Tamba water (Tamra jal) a day. For optimal benefits, water should be kept in the Tamba vessel for a minimum of 4 hours before drinking, in order for the copper to cleanse and ionize your water. Drinking Tamra jal upon waking in the morning is best as it coats your digestive tract and sets your metabolism for the rest of the day. You can also incorporate the Tamra jal into their daily yoga and meditation practice. Do what suits you best, just remember to use your Tamba™ every day.

Benefits of drinking Tamra jal?
Copper is an essential trace mineral that our body requires for metabolic functioning. It is an antioxidant that plays a role in the normal functioning of muscles and the immune and nervous systems. Since the human body cannot synthesize copper, we need to obtain it from dietary sources. Foods such as nuts, legumes, leafy greens and seafood can be great sources of copper. However, they only provide small amounts of copper, leading us to find the balance from other sources.
One such way is to drink water stored in a copper vessel. For centuries, yogis have been drinking Tamra jal as part of their daily yoga and meditation practice. Tamra jal is known for its multiple health benefits such as: reducing inflammation, improving digestion and boosting immunity. Furthermore, according to Ayurveda it is believed that Tamra jal helps balance the doshas (mind-body constitution). Many yogis still carry around pots called “kamandalam” which positively charge water enhancing their absorption by the cells.
Scientific studies have shown that copper removes bacteria and impurities from water due to what is called the ‘oligodynamic’ effect- the antimicrobial properties of certain metals.
Disease-causing bacteria cannot survive for more than a few hours on copper surfaces (Center of Applied Microbiology and Research, UK)
Copper helps neutralize toxins, ionize and balance the pH in water making the water fit for consumption. Other benefits include:
- Improved vitality
- Immune boost
- Prevention of aging
- Aids in the production of collagen
- Wrinkle reduction and increased skin elasticity
- Increased metabolism
- Enhanced digestion
- Arthritic support
- Strengthening of hair and nails
- Support of bone & connective tissue development
Antimicrobial properties of copper are not just limited to cleaning water. Recently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency registered copper as the only solid surface material to kill bacteria that may pose a threat to human health. Hospital acquired infections (HAI) are becoming a major health crisis throughout the world. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that about 2 million people in the United States are infected annually by hospital-acquired infections, resulting in 20,000 deaths.
Many hospitals are taking steps to reduce such infections by equipping their patient rooms and operating rooms with copper alloy surfaces, replacing bed rails, tables and door knobs. Such alterations have helped reduced the number of healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) in patients by more than half (Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, May 2013).
